Personality

Wellti's defining trait is physical: when his emotions overflow, his head literally grows. Curiosity, surprise, excitement, sometimes a bit too eager — they all push his head forward, sometimes sideways, sometimes upward in a twisted knot. He pokes and nudges things; sometimes a bit too hard. When emotion spirals — excitement to fear and back — his head can bounce up like a balloon on a long balloon-neck, until his fragile body wobbles and he tips over. Default state: normal head, normal Wellti.

• low alcoves stocked with odd pokeable trinkets
• felt-wrapped posts and padded floor mats between huts
• a communal tip-over bench where siblings help each other up
• low-slung roofs kept below head-balloon height
• scatter-shelves of deliberately baffling small artefacts

What they eat

• human-kettle-sized pots of stimulant chili-broth intended for the whole tribe
• washtubs of fermented radish juice meant to season a week of meals
• buckets of fizzing curiosity-mead stored in the elder's cellar
• the untouched calming cauldron sitting right beside all of it
